Granite and evergreen Undying earthly themes The stuff of painted scenes Granite and evergreen Granite and evergreen We never spoke in prose Spun phrase on pointed toes The winter that you froze And I taped my windows closed And I taped my windows closed And when I lose control I think of you Retrace the paces that I put you through Loving me was such an awful thing to ask you to do Now I grieve for one I never really knew We never kept it clean Chipped teeth and shredded sheets The year I loved to scream And you were my war machine My gorgeous war machine And when I lose control I think of you Retrace the paces that I put you through Loving me was such an awful thing to ask you to do Now I grieve for one I never really knew Granite and evergreen Perfect, timeless and obscene I prefer to love your memory Granite and evergreen

Oh my god, I’m feeling sober Just arrived, the party’s over Blinked and everyone I know got older I’d do anything, to feel young again Cause I just want to hear the hits Just want to hear some words that I’m familiar with I just want to hear the hits Raid the stockpile of old letters An emotional bomb shelter I’m trying to feel, I’m not trying to feel better I’d give anything, to feel real again I just want to hear the hits Just want to feel the way that I remember it I just want to hear the hits Every lonesome note I sing I sing to you Every wholesome tone is lonely too Play me something sad and slow and long We all the know words, so we all sing along We just want to hear the hits Just want feel like we're a little part of this We just want to hear the hits Hear the hits

Stare at blinking screens But the movie’s done now I did not see me They must have cut my part out Scenes like these never make the silver screen Stupid me, stupid me This line wraps the block Bless the patient patrons Who can but refuse to walk Put their faith in waiting In rush we trust, we don’t get in but it feels just Stupid us, stupid us Hope hangs heavy in the air No one said this would be fair I will shout your name from the edge of canyons I will feel the same as time passes Ancient glaciers formed me too I still love you, still I love you Hope hangs heavy in the air No one said this would be fair They won’t know my face When I finally go home Someone will fill my place That’s the curse of the road Freedom’s ring is sounds a like lonely Stupid me, stupid me Hope hangs heavy in the air No one said this would be No one said this would be No one said this would be fair

I flew home just a little too soon It was good for me, it was bad for you We played cards all afternoon You were old for me, I was young for you Explain my history to me Explain yourself, take liberties Empty house on a quiet street I was scared of you, were scared of me? You were mostly fantasy When it came to life I wished I was asleep Explain my history to me Explain yourself, take liberties Now I deal in memories They don’t use the door, they come up like weeds Can’t believe the scenes I see So I close my eyes, I pour new concrete Explain my history to me Explain yourself, take liberties Explain yourself, take liberties Explain yourself, take liberties

I’ve got a middle kid relationship to refills Misbelieve in quantum cherry coke Worried since before I knew what worrying was for And if you want some, I’ve got more I’ve been down, but I’m up right now Cavities fill my mouth I’ve been down, but I’m up right now I’m alright right now Riddled with insidious predictions Waiting for the other shoe to drop Seems like scarcity Has left her marks all over me She always said that nothing’s free I’ve been down, but I’m up right now Let me try this out I’ve been down, but I’m up right now I’m alright right now Sit in the sun with a bottle of beer Bike upside down while I oil the gears Here’s to the year I stopped trying to steer Now I’ve been down, but I’m up right now Let me ride this out I’ve been down, but I’m up right now I’m alright right now Better than summer Bummer you missed out

First get your story straight, Born Oregon coast Orphanage-raised Forget un-lived ways Tiptoe lonesome roads Make home on the range Ripping kindling from the Bible Follow smoke signals for miles Walk until you’re tired of walking away Don’t stop if you’re not planning to stay Walk until you’re tired of walking away Leave ghosts in ghost towns Bury your dead Move on down Killing rattlesnakes and robbers Dreaming nightly of your father Ride until you’re tired of running away Don’t stop if you’re not planning to stay Ride until you’re tired of running away Cupid steal the reins Cripple my horse Make me stay Make sense of mistakes Study the stars Find my way The sole protector of the helpless Dress the wounds you haven’t dealt with Hide until you’re tired of running away Don’t say if you’re not planning to stay Hide until you’re tired of running away

Nothing is as formal as doorbell Or as frightening as an unexpected call Everyone’s got stories that they don’t tell Family portraits taken at the mall Runaway family pets White built-in cabinets I was born a major chord Learned how to drive before you taught me If you didn’t ask, I didn’t lie Pull the car in till you hit the laundry Boxes from our old house piled high Breathe in dishwasher’s scent Parked out by the dryer vent I was born a major chord Lost the last few messages your wrote me I read the few I have on lonely nights Living sometimes feels like something’s got me Hands behind my back, receiving rights I should have died a million times, I should have died I should have died a million times, but I got life I was born to play these chords

Once you were a person who arrived on time With eyes as bright as shoes just shined All right ideas and tight Levis When you closed your eyes You fantasized that things would be all right You took a road that no one knows about Wound throughout the woes, Highest highs and lowest of lows You learned that hope is often dwarfed by doubt Heavy hearts resound Quiet now, you can hear them sound Once you had motor and the will the drive A slide-rule mind with fuel to fly All-night rides and blown stoplights When you closed your eyes Never mind, you never closed your eyes You took a road that no one knows about Wound throughout the woes, Highest highs and lowest of lows You chased the work around a roundabout Mind outshouts your mouth Thought so loud you couldn’t hear a sound Now we an aging forest with boughs so high With roofs of leaves that frame the sky The loops repeat: birds crow, wolves cry When you close your eyes Curtains rise; you’re blinded by the light You took a road that no one knows about Wound throughout the woes, Highest highs and lowest of lows Made your peace up on the mortal mount Sounding through the throws Love is leaving everything you know Oh, Write it on your throat Love is leaving everything you know

Where there is air, there’s my love Coffee at sunset, my love Catholic parents running late Right up the stairs, no rush, we can wait Where there is air, there’s my love Cookies and napkins, my love Stop at the statue, the virgin in white Breathe in her silence; take in her light Where there is air, there’s my love Atheists stare at my love Unearthly blessing, a walk around the block Verses from heaven in asphalt and chalk Sure I’m scared I’m skipping stairs, love
10.
I will wait for you Till they burn my body I will sing your tune When you stop responding Foolish youth, How I cling to you who loved me too You loved me too

about

Eclipse is an album forged in parallel. Together artists from Nashville, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles and Dover focused their quarantined energies to create something beautiful. In this collaborative compilation, artists from across the country reimagine and record songs from Kirsten Opstad’s moons project.

Moons, a collection of twenty-one songs released with six consecutive full moons last year, aimed to demystify the process of writing, recording and releasing music regularly. A natural next phase, Eclipse aims to build new bridges between artists, creating community through collaboration.

Originally created to benefit COVID-19 relief, all proceeds from the first week of album sales will be directed to Black Lives Matter in response to the urgent and ongoing threat to Black lives.
